Missoula reaches out to cashier beaten in robbery 1-9-13
NBC Montana has learned two of the five suspects arrested in connection with a violent armed robbery are former football players for the Montana Western Bulldogs.
Missoula Police arrested 20-year-old Ikaika Kamaka and his brother, 19-year-old Devon Kamaka, along with three others for the robbery on Wednesday, January 9.
The incident occurred at Jay's Mart convenience store, in south Missoula early Tuesday morning. Four men entered the store, beat the clerk with baseball bats, and left with the cash register.?
The clerk suffered a skull fracture, and underwent emergency surgery at the hospital later that day.
The 2012 Bulldogs team roster lists 20-year-old Ikaika Kamaka as a sophomore wide receiver for the Bulldogs, and his brother, 19-year-old Devon Kamaka, as a redshirt freshman.
Devon Kamaka is being held for robbery, aggravated assault, and tampering or fabricating physical evidence. Ikaika Kamaka is in jail for robbery.
Montana Western Spokesperson Kent Ord said both players left the team for personal reasons midway through last year's season.
"I'd say that our football program has made great strides, especially under coach Ryan Norris, to make sure that our program is squeaky clean, and that our student athletes represent the university in a way that's appropriate and provides all kinds of service to their community, said Ord.
Two other suspects arrested for the robbery are also former football players. 25-year-old Andrew Badger, and 26-year-old Timothy Parks, both played for the University of Montana Grizzlies.
Badger's being held for robbery, aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence. Park was arrested for tampering with evidence, but posted a $10,000 bail, and said through his lawyer doesn't expect charges to be filed.
All five suspects are expected to appear in Missoula County Justice Court Friday afternoon.
